How We Work

NJYCC creates a community across a coalition of members dedicated to developing the next generation of young citizens in New Jersey, and promoting civic learning, and the importance of history and civic education in strengthening American democracy.

Community. Strategy.  Storytelling.

Community.  We provide a voice for parents, students and communities in New Jersey committed to civic education and developing civic identity.  We also create a forum for shared conversations among a broad group of stakeholders including community members, students, educators, district and local leadership, state and federal policymakers, post-secondary institutions, and funders.

Strategy.  We offer our partnership and perspective to help decision makers identify and implement the best policies and strategies for building the civic identity of young citizens in our state starting with ensuring robust civic education for students k-12.

Storytelling.   We recognize the magic in civic education.  We promote high quality research and development, data and reporting on the state of civic education in New Jersey, and celebrate the positive impact it has on not only students, but on the health of our schools and communities.

Drawing from the tremendous research and scholarship on the need for improved civic education and roadmaps for greater civic engagement among youth, the New Jersey Youth Civics Coalition has identified 5 key success factors.
